Hello friends. My name is Akshay Bhardwaj. I recently cleared the SSC CPO Prelims exam. Right now, my full focus is on clearing the CPO Mains. After that, I am also targeting the SSC CGL 2026 exam.
As a serious aspirant, I know the real struggle of preparation. Every single mark matters. I am currently running a strict 60-day plan to master rare synonyms. Alongside that, I have a 45-day schedule just to test my advanced English grammar. I study hard every day. But let us be honest with ourselves. Even after reading all the books, we can never know 100% of the answers in the real exam hall.
Also, I saw in recent exams that SSC is using AI to create their question papers. This makes the options very tricky. Examiners can easily flip words and numbers. Because of this, blind guessing or “tukka” will only give you negative marks. We need a better plan.

Recently, I watched a very helpful video on YouTube. It was by the Exam Cluster channel. The video talked about smart guess methods. I loved the content. I am writing this article for you to share those exact tricks. These are the same tricks that top rankers use.
Let us discuss the best SSC exam elimination tricks to boost your final score.

The Golden Rule – Knowledge Comes First
Before we start, I want to give a clear warning. These tricks are not magic. You cannot clear SSC CGL 2026 with zero knowledge.
Knowledge is always supreme. First, solve all the questions you know. Second, use your basic common sense. Only after that, you should use these elimination tricks. Use them on questions where you are stuck between two options. This will keep you in a “net positive” score.
Trick 1 – Do Not Trust Exact Numbers in Options
This is a very powerful trick. If you see specific numbers or data in an option, be careful. There is a high chance that the statement is wrong.
Think like the examiner. If they are making a question about the “International Big Cat Alliance,” they need to make one wrong statement. It is very easy to change a number. If the real fact is 7 species, they will just write 6 species.
Real Example – Look at a question about the Great Indian Bustard. Statement 1 – It is found in Rajasthan and Gujarat. (Looks general and true). Statement 2 – It comes under Schedule II of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972.
Here, “Schedule II” and “1972” are specific numbers. Examiners love to play with these. They might change Schedule I to Schedule II. So, if you do not know the answer, assume the statement with the specific data is false. Eliminate it. You will easily reach the right answer.
Trick 2 – Use Common Sense and Find Opposite Options
Many times, the answer is hidden in the options. You just need to apply basic logic.
The Opposite Options Rule – If two options are exactly opposite to each other, the answer is usually one of them. For example, if a question asks about a population graph. Option A says “Triangular Shape”. Option C says “Inverted Triangular Shape”. You can safely ignore Option B and D. The answer is between A and C.
The Logic Rule – Always break down the words. In one mock question, it asked – “Who has the power to make laws on GST for inter-state trade?” The options had NITI Aayog, President, Parliament, and State Legislature.
Apply your common sense. If two states like Jharkhand and West Bengal do trade, they can fight. Will Jharkhand listen to a law made by West Bengal? No. They need a higher power. Who makes laws for the whole country? The Parliament of India. Just by thinking calmly, you get the right answer without reading the exact article number.

Trick 3 – Catch the Government Buzzwords
This is my favorite trick for current affairs. The government loves to use catchy names for their schemes. We call these “buzzwords”.
Whenever there is a new scheme, it will usually have a Sanskrit-sounding name. Or it will follow a popular pattern. Look for words like –
- Amrit Kaal
- Panchamrit
- Mission LiFE
- One Nation, One [Anything]
- Atmanirbhar
- Vikasit Bharat
How to use this SSC exam elimination trick
Suppose a question asks – “What major initiative was launched for pollution on Environment Day 2025?” Option A – Ban on plastic. Option B – Shut down coal plants. Option C – Launch of One Nation One Mission.
Option A and B are very boring or very extreme. Option C has the classic government buzzword “One Nation One Mission”. If you have to guess, always bet on the buzzword. The examiner will likely frame the correct answer around these famous terms.
Trick 4 – The Number Gap Strategy (High Risk)
I will be honest. This trick is risky. Use it very carefully. Use it only if your total attempts are very low and you need to take a risk.
Sometimes SSC asks very random historical years or old data. For example – In which year was the BCCI founded? Options – 1925, 1928, 1932, 1940.
Most of us will not remember this. Look at the gap between the numbers. Here is what you do –
- Cut the smallest number (1925).
- Cut the biggest number (1940).
- Now you only have two options left (1928 and 1932).
Guess between the middle two. Your winning chance jumps from 25% to 50%. Again, do not use this if the options are very close like 1927, 1928, 1929. Use it only when there is a good gap.
Trick 5 – Play the Probability Game
Sometimes you will see “All of the Above” or “None of the Above” in the options. There is a simple math rule here.
If you are totally blank on a question, and you see “All of the Above”, it is a safe bet. Statistically, the chance of it being right is more than 25%.
But if you see “None of the Above”, be very alert. The chance of this being correct is very low. It is usually around 20% to 22%. So, avoid picking “None of the Above” unless you are 100% sure about it through your own knowledge.
My Final Advice for the Students
Cracking SSC CGL or CPO Mains is not just about reading books. It is also about exam temperament. We have to be smart.
Do not just read these tricks. Apply them. Whenever you give a mock test on Testbook or Oliveboard, try to use these SSC exam elimination tricks. See if your score goes up. Make mistakes in the mock tests so you do not make them in the real exam.
I am going back to my vocabulary plan now. I wish you all the very best for your exams. Let us study hard, play smart, and clear the cut-offs this year. Keep grinding.
